Abortion Buffer Zones moves a step closer
Legislation which could see buffer zones implemented around abortion clinics in England and Wales has completed passage through the House of Lords this week.
The Public Order Bill now needs to be approved by MPs who will consider a raft of changes made to the legislation by Peers.
Clause 9 of the Bill would prohibit pro-life volunteers from 'influencing', 'advising', 'persuading', 'informing', 'occupying space' or even 'expressing opinion' near an abortion facility.
Anyone who is found to be in breach of the rules could face up to two years in prison.
Buffer zones are already in place in five towns by local councils. In Birmingham recently, a pro-life volunteer called Isabelle Vaughan-Spruce was arrested for silent prayer.
She was ultimately vindicated after she pursued justice through the courts.

CARE is opposed to genuine harassment and intimidation. But the UK Government's own research shows such incidents rarely happen. The vast majority of pro-life vigils are peaceful and focused on prayer and providing key information. MPs and Peers have given the green light to a clause that is fundamentally flawed. It is a restriction on free speech and as such, we urge MPs and the UK Government to reject Clause 9.
