Following a vote by Conservative Party Members, Liz Truss has been elected as leader of the party and will be our next Prime Minister. The Apostle Paul urges us in 1 Timothy 2:2 to "pray for kings and and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness".

Below you will find some prayers for our new Prime Minister and the Government as they face a range of challenges over the next few months.

  • Lord Jesus, we ask that you provide wise and godly counsel to our next Prime Minister, Liz Truss. Create in her a teachable spirit, a soft heart, and ears which are attentive to sound counsel. By Your grace, would you guide her heart and mind to glorify you, as they serve our country. Amen.
  • Father God, we thank you that you grant to each of us different gifts and abilities. We ask boldly Lord, that the Prime Minister’s gift of leadership would be an inspiration to others. Would you work through her to restore integrity and confidence to politics. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
  • Lord, thank you that your mercies are new every morning. We ask that our government would love mercy and act justly. Please God, would they respect the value and dignity of all people and would they have compassionate hearts towards our country’s greatest needs. Lord, hear our prayer.
  • Almighty God, grant the Prime Minister wisdom, discernment and insight to understand how best to respond to complex situations like the energy crisis, war in Ukraine and economic difficulty. We pray that you would bless and strengthen her when making difficult decisions, both privately and publicly. Lord, would she be diligent and trustworthy, seeking to do what is right and good. In Your name. Amen.
  • Sovereign Lord, would you protect and encourage those in Government. Would they find confidence in knowing that their identity is in you alone and not based on the media’s perception or public opinion. We pray that they would be courageous and resilient in the face of adversity. For Jesus’ sake. Amen.
