Write to Peers about assisted suicide

The Leadbeater Bill

Kim Leadbeater's Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill has now passed through the House of Commons.

On Friday 12 September, the Bill will have its Second Reading in the House of Lords. This will be the time when Peers debate the principles of the Bill. If it passes, there will then be several more months of detailed debate: this is likely to last until next year.

The House of Lords plays an essential role in our Parliamentary process, and regularly seeks to improve and amend legislation. Although this is more uncommon, it is able to stop Bills in their entirety under certain circumstances.

Write to a Peer

With two weeks to go, now is the right time to write to Peers to remind them of the dangers of the Bill and its impact upon the most vulnerable, and to encourage them to oppose it.

Although they are contactable by email, our advice is that the best way to reach out to a Peer is to write a physical letter, and to post it to their parliamentary address.

You can find a list of Peers whom we particularly recommend you write to, and a list of suggested points to cover (in your own words) here.

All peers have the same parliamentary address, and so you need to simply put the title and name of the Peer you are addressing, and the following address on the envelope:

[Title and Name of Peer]
