Euthanasia “should be discussed” says Carol Vorderman

Former Countdown star, Carol Vorderman has shared that she thinks legalising Euthanasia “should be discussed”.

Whilst appearing as a guest on Kathy Burke’s podcast Where There’s a Will, There’s a Wake, Carol Vorderman recounted the story of her brother attending a friend's funeral in Holland where he lives.

According to the star, the terminally ill friend gathered loved ones to celebrate his life, and the next morning he was euthanised.

During the podcast, Carol draws from her experience of her mum’s death in 2017 after her fourth battle with cancer.

“It really made me think a lot about how I would want similar, to be perfectly honest,” she said. “You know, not joking about it, having seen my mum’s last breath... I just thought that was very dignified.”

In response, Burke shared, “I think it’s something we need to look into more and more, in this country.”

“It’s not allowed,” says Burke, “And I sort of understand the reasons as well, why people are so nervous of it. You know, but it should be brought up again and again.”

“I do. I think it is something that should be discussed,” concluded Vorderman.

Euthanasia is currently legal in Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal (awaiting regulation) Spain, and Australia.

Though illegal in the UK, euthanasia laws are under threat: consultations are currently underway in Jersey, and the Isle of Man, and in Scotland, McArthur’s Assisted Dying Bill is making headway.
