Pro-abortion figures attack group that offers free ultrasound scans
Abortion groups have attacked an organisation that offers women free ultrasound scans that could prompt them to continue a pregnancy.
BPAS and MSI Reproductive Choices hit out at Stanton Healthcare (East of Scotland), which counsels woman on abortion alternatives.
BPAS told The Times Scotland its own policy is to turn the ultrasound screens away from mothers during a consultation.
MSI Reproductive Choices accused pregnancy crisis centres of having an "agenda" by offering women scans and advice on alternatives.
Stanton Healthcare was also attacked by Labour MSP Monica Lennon who said free ultrasounds are a "worrying development".
Lennon is one of several women MSPs calling for new legislation to make pro-life activity near abortion clinics in Scotland a criminal offence.
Stanton Healthcare estimates that 90 per cent of women who receive a scan decide to continue with their pregnancies.
A spokeswoman for CARE said:
"Pregnancy crisis centres operate in various cities across the UK, offering women compassionate, judgment free advice about their baby and other choices to abortion.
"It's hardly surprising that abortion groups - which benefit financially from each abortion carried out - would want to push women towards that choice, and they clearly do.
"The admission by BPAS that it turns ultrasound screens away from women receiving a consultation is a stark admission that they obscure the reality of pregnancy.
"We believe women deserve access to a range of advice about their pregnancy, including from groups who affirm the humanity of the unborn child."
