Young mother dies after abortion

Hospital beds 3

The tragic death of a 31-year-old mother following an abortion has led to criticism of permissive UK legislation.

Sarah Dunn died in April last year - less than three weeks after she visited a clinic for a surgical abortion.

She reported feeling poorly to her GP, a pharmacist, and an out-of-hours doctor several times in the following days but each medic missed the signs of sepsis.

Almost 20 days after the abortion took place, she was rushed to hospital where she suffered a seizure and organ failure and died.

An inquest carried out after the tragedy, which concluded this month, found "gross neglect" by medics contributed to Sarah's death.

Speaking after the result of the inquest was announced, pro-life campaigners warned permissive UK abortion legislation carriers huge dangers to women.

Right to Life noted that rules around abortion were relaxed even further during the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing women to access and self-administer abortion pills at home.

This has led to serious complications arising including sepsis, hemorrhaging, embolisms, renal failure and trauma to pelvic organs.

Right To Life UK spokesperson, Catherine Robinson, said:

“Sarah Dunn’s death is a tragedy. Her life mattered. The life of every woman who suffers an abortion-related death matters. So, too, do the lives of the unborn babies whose lives are ended by abortion”.
